Definition
Passive water sampling using a semipermeable membrane device (SPMD). Target substances diffuse from the aquatic environment through a semipermeable membrane into the accumulation medium, without the use of a pump. The method is intended mainly for long-term monitoring of hydrophobic organic contaminants.
